Discovery Canada’s distributor announces sale of shockingly imaginative original Canadian series to U.S. broadcaster Destination America. Discovery Networks International scoops up rights for series in a multitude of territories including for EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Asia)

TORONTO (March 21, 2013) – Discovery Canada’s distribution unit Exploration Distribution Inc. (EDI) announced today that U.S. broadcaster Destination America has acquired the exclusive American broadcast rights to its original series ALIEN MYSTERIES. Destination America has acquired broadcast rights across all its media platforms, including cable television, internet, and mobile, with the series set to premiere on American television in April 2013. EDI is the distribution arm of Canada’s Exploration Production Inc., a leading supplier of first-class factual content for international markets around the globe.

“Discovery Canada, EPI, and EDI are thrilled that international broadcasters like Destination America have jumped at the chance to acquire this first-rate Canadian content,” said Tony Leadman, Head of Worldwide Program Distribution, EDI. “With the sale of this marquee series, EDI remains at the forefront of distributing compelling factual series for international audiences.”

In addition to the American acquisition, EDI also confirms today that ALIEN MYSTERIES has been licensed by Discovery Networks across the globe, including the United Kingdom (as previously announced), Italy, and the EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Asia) market.

Discovery’s ALIEN MYSTERIES is a fantastically creative and imaginative new take on some of the most enduring UFO mysteries from the last 50 years. The shockingly imaginative original Canadian series candidly chronicles first-person accounts of UFO sightings, alien encounters, and abductions. In each episode, dramatic re-enactments recount stunning real-life unexplained alien experiences, taking viewers on a thrilling – and sometimes terrifying – journey. Their bizarre, life-altering encounters are vividly depicted using new state-of-the-art CGI and green screen techniques and created by Toronto-based Acme Digital Pictures. As well, each story features scientists and researchers who probe the question – how is this possible?

“The purpose of the show is not to de-bunk,” said Executive Producer Karen McCairley. “With the help of recognized science experts, ALIEN MYSTERIES pulls back the curtain pushing us to open our minds in search of answers.”

The world premiere two-hour broadcast of ALIEN MYSTERIES hit big with Canadian audiences reaching 1.54 million (P2+) Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast. The series opener – “The Reed Family” – pulled in 500,000 (P2+) alien-obsessed viewers, according to BBM.

ALIEN MYSTERIES is produced by Exploration Production Inc. in association with Discovery Canada. Gemini-nominee Karen McCairley (MIGHTY SHIPS, HOW TECH WORKS) is the show’s Executive Producer.
