Internet Eyerolls & The Blatant Auto-Tweet

Social media has taken over my life since I started this blog and I have been spending more and more time on it connecting with other like-minded people. I have been using Facebook for years, but I have only been on Twitter for a few, Pinterest for even less, and Google+ for about two weeks. Everything gets taken with a massive grain of salt when it comes to reading posts, but….I have been stewing and eye-rolling A LOT lately. I have to get these pet peeves out of my system and hopefully find some kindred spirits who can commiserate with me.

6. The automatic direct messages. I am actually a little on the fence about this one. They can be useful in at least acknowledging followers on Twitter, if you are getting so many a day that you just can’t address each one. Since I am one of the uncool kids of Twitter, I do no use auto DM’s. I get a lot of them, though, which annoy me, mostly because now I have to go over and actually read it to get that damn notification to go away.

5. The AAATT (all-acronyms-all-the-time). IKR?!?!? OMG, LOL! TTIAB.

4. The screechers. We all have them….the ones who are SO. DAMN. EXCITED!!!!!! to bring you whatever news they have “specifically for you!!!!!!” I love a great giveaway too, but you cannot tell me you are actually that excited about a mop.

3. The moaners. Polar opposites of the screechers, these ones have zero positivity. You almost prefer the screechers….almost.

2. The unhelpful Facebook comments in response to a quest for help. When I ask for something, don’t comment to tell me you can’t do it or can’t help me. If you don’t comment at all, I automatically assume you can’t help me; no need to spell it out. I love that you love me enough to comment, but seriously! 😉 (Sorry, friends who commented yesterday-you know it’s true XOXO)

1. The auto-tweeter. Sorry, not fence-sitting on this one. I followed someone the other day, and her first tweet to me was “Jenn, what gets you through your most difficult times in life?” I was totally put off, mostly because I can’t even say if I would honestly answer that if my best friend asked me. I went to her profile to reply with just that, and saw that exact tweet to about 18 other people on her timeline. I rolled my eyes and unfollowed. Engaging followers I understand, and try to do a lot every day. But that’s just it, really engaging followers is actually engaging them, not auto-tweeting to generate replies. My only sorrow is that she unfollowed me back before she could see this post.

I feel so much better now that I got that all out of my head. I wonder if my next post should be the lyrics to every Wiggles song imaginable?

What are some of your internet eyerolls? I would love to hear them! We should really create a Master List…

  1. I’m more likely to roll my eyes – or blow my top – at posts on my personal Facebook wall. Seriously – some of the memes people mindlessly share need to go away. At least stop and think if it really reflects your personal beliefs before hitting the share button.

  2. Yes! That pisses me off too, the people who post or share things that are the antithesis of everything they else say. Or the people who bitch about people never having anything positive to say, when they themselves are ALWAYS negative. Oh internets.

  3. Honorable Mention: Just saw someone post a quote on Twitter….from their own website dedicated to their own books written under their pen name. In summation, she quoted herself.

  4. I think I find Twitter more of a pain than a help. Maybe I’m doing it wrong (pretty sure, in fact) but I’m not sure what value I’m adding to my online footprint.

Also, quite a lot of irritating people use it 🙂

    1. SOOOOOO many irritating people use it. I am always weeding people out…maybe people are weeding me out too ? Lol

I use it mostly for blog networking. And no, you are for sure not doing it wrong! It’s impossible 😉

  5. I find myself nodded and giggling while reading this great blog. I have so many pet peeves as I spend time on social media. I follow this one guy he hunts on Twitter, he followed me for whatever reason. I checked out his page and he had some interesting tweets. Now I have 3 other hunters following me. Is it to read my blog, or sell me on need to eat wild meat, I don’t know? And I get messages sent to me written in Spanish. I couldn’t understand what the message said other than ti amo. Anyways off my soap box, I’ll catch you on the Tweet side.

    1. Aww thank you! I know, me too…the more time I spend the more ridiculous things I find! I have all of these wineries following me…which is great, except none of them offer to send samples for review, despite my pointed requests lol
